Why tarantulas?

I’ve loved animals for as long as I can remember. But the unexpected turning point came when I was just two years old, visiting a zoo in Zurich, Switzerland. Out of all the animals there, toddler me became utterly captivated… by a tarantula. Not just any tarantula — a Brachypelma hamorii (Mexican Red Knee). I was so obsessed that I begged my parents to take a photo of her, which was later framed and proudly hung in my bedroom for years.

To this day, I still can’t explain exactly why I fell in love with that tarantula. But that moment sparked a lifelong fascination with eight-legged creatures. As a kid, I was always outside hunting for bugs, doodling spiders on everything, and building up a massive collection of plastic creepy crawlies. I even gave a presentation on tarantulas in Year 2.
In secondary school, I joined the Natural History Club, which only deepened my love for entomology. I once even chose a book on macro insect photography as a school prize — not the easiest thing to explain to teachers expecting a classic novel or science textbook.
Sadly, my dreams of keeping a tarantula had to wait — my parents had a firm “not under my roof” policy. But the moment I moved out, that all changed… and the rest is history. I know have my family of 80 or so eight legged friends,
Through my content, I want to shine a light on the unloved — the misunderstood and often feared creatures that deserve so much more appreciation. Tarantulas are incredible, and I hope to help more people see them through a different lens: one of curiosity, respect, and wonder.
Come along on this crazy joruney with me as I share my experience and the wonders of these creatures with you all!
With love,
Invert xx
